Mon to Weds Nursery

Monday 6th – Wednesday 15th June 2016

 

Welcome back to the second half of the summer term. We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday. This half term is very busy. We will be practising for sports morning, where the children are very excited to show off there Physical Development skills.

We will also be working with the children moving to Reception in September. We will be working together with Miss Fife, taking part in lots of transition activities where the children will become more familiar with the setting and routines of Blue class.

Children who have a further year in Nursery will also be spending time meeting their new friends and teacher.

 

This week we will be continuing to focus on writing our names and drawing/making a picture to represent ourselves. We will be working outside on a large scale.

 

We would also welcome any natural materials you may have collected whilst out and about such as shells, pine cones, driftwood etc. Thank you very much for your support.

 

Talk time continues every Tuesday. Talk time gives children the opportunity to bring items from home, which are important to them in some way. We place the items in our talk time box and each child will have the opportunity to tell the class about their item and answer any questions the children may have. This term we ask the children to bring items that remind them of Summer. These items can include photographs of something they have found, objects, drawings and notes from parents/carers which a member of staff can help read etc.

 

Wednesday is library day in Nursery. Each week the children visit the library where we share a story sack. The children are then able to choose a book to bring home and share with their family. Please return the book the following week if you would like to change it for a new book. We ask all books are returned at the end of a half term. Thank you.

 

 

 

 

Monday 9th – Wednesday 18th May 2016

 

We will be looking at shapes in the environment over the next two weeks. We will be talking about 2D and 3D shape, looking at their properties and going on a shape hunt. We will also be using shapes for a purpose to build our own models.

 

The children have been building camp fires and role playing camping in our outdoor area. To support their learning we will be developing their play by making our own shelters.

 

Talk time continues every Tuesday. Talk time gives children the opportunity to bring items from home, which are important to them in some way. We place the items in our talk time box and each child will have the opportunity to tell the class about their item and answer any questions the children may have. This term we ask the children to bring items they have discovered. These items can include photographs of something they have found, objects, drawings and notes from parents/carers which a member of staff can help read etc.

 

Wednesday is library day in Nursery. Each week the children visit the library where we share a story sack. The children are then able to choose a book to bring home and share with their family. Please return the book the following week if you would like to change it for a new book. We ask all books are returned at the end of a half term. Thank you.

 

This half term our first RE theme is ‘Friendship’. We will be focusing on the Christian values of ‘Friendship, Trust and Love’.  Please take a look at our Reflection Area to see what we have been learning. We have been reading the story of the Rainbow Fish and finding out how we can be a good friend to each other.

 

 

 

 

 

Monday 25th – Wednesday 27th April 2016

 

This week we will be following the children’s interests in ‘castles’. We will be planning what we would like in our role play area and encouraging the children to make their own props to support their play. We will also be looking at both Fiction and Non-fiction books about life in a castle. If you have anything at home to support this topic we would love to share it with the children at school.

 

This half term we are continuing with ‘Messy Monday’. Every Monday the children will have the opportunity to explore and talk about different materials. Why not have a go at home (Please ask a member of staff if you need a recipe), the children thoroughly enjoy these sessions.

 

Our ‘Talk time’ session will take place every Tuesday. Talk time gives children the opportunity to bring items from home, which are important to them in some way. We place the items in our talk time box and each child will have the opportunity to tell the class about their item and answer any questions the children may have. This term we ask the children to bring items they have discovered. These items can include photographs of something they have found, objects, drawings and notes from parents/carers which a member of staff can help read etc.

During our observations last week, the children showed a great deal of interest in mark making, particularly around numbers. This week we will be developing this interest and taking the children on a number hunt around the school and its grounds. Why not do the same at home?

We will also be looking at writing our names, focusing on making marks to represent our names as well as pencil grip and forming letters correctly. For those children who are able to write their names accurately we will be beginning to look at making attempts at writing other words.

Monday 7th March – Wednesday 9th March 2016

 

 

This week we will be following the children’s interests in growing. We will be looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We will be retelling the story using puppets and masks, and thinking about ways to help Jack. Children will also have the opportunity to plant their own bean. We will be measuring these as they grow to see who in Nursery can grow the biggest beanstalk.

 

Talk Time - This half term we are asking children to bring something they are proud of to share with the class.

Monday 29th February – Wednesday 2nd March 2016

 

This week is a very exciting week in school. We are taking part in World book week, activities will be taking place all week, with children being invited to dress as their favourite book character on Friday. For further details please see the recent school newsletter or please ask Miss Kennedy or Miss Cameron if you need any further information.

 

Tuesday 1st March is also World Maths Day. We will be providing lots of opportunities for the children to explore and investigate whilst having lots of fun.

 

There will be no talk time this week due to World Maths Day activities.

Tuesday 23rd – Wednesday 24th February 2016

Children will be building a mini beast hotel in our outdoor area, and also developing our role play area into a garden.

This week we have a busy week in Nursery. We will be learning about Shrove Tuesday (Pancake day), tasting pancakes and talking about the flavours we like/dislike.

 

On Tuesday it is also e safety awareness day where we will be talking to the children about using the internet safely.

 

We are looking forward to seeing some Dads, Grandads and Uncles on Tuesday afternoon. You are welcome to join us for an afternoon of construction.

 

 

During talk time this half term we will be encouraging children to bring ‘a treasure’ from home to share. This could be something they have found during a walk on the beach, a photograph etc. Please do not send any items of high value or importance to school.

Monday 1st February – Wednesday 3rd February 2016

This week we are celebrating Chinese New Year, 2016 is the year of the monkey. Chinese New Year is officially the 8th February, so we will be celebrating in the run up to this.

We will be making our own Chinese dragon dance, adding our own music and dance. We will also be using our ‘Chinese Restaurant’ role play area. Here children will play in role as waiters/waitresses, chefs and customers. We will be encouraging mark making and use of numbers in our play. We will also be tasting some Chinese food for ourselves. (If you would like further information about the foods we will be tasting please see Miss Kennedy or Miss Cameron). We will also be exploring and finding out a little about China.

 

If you have anything of interest to support this topic we would love to share it.

This week we will be making our own vegetable soup. We will be encouraging the children to prepare the vegetables, and taste the soup during snack time.

 

We will also be exploring the programmes on the ipads and the beebots. (These are programmable toys.)

 

Children have also expressed an interest in den building. We will be using the outdoor den making area to make our own shelters. We may come home a bit more muddy this week!

We had lots of fun last week in Nursery. The children have decided to make a dinosaur den in role play. We will be working together to develop this over the next few weeks. This week we will be making our own dinosaurs and naming them, to make a class book. We will be thinking about pencil grip and ‘being brave’ to attempt mark making independently. We will also be counting and sorting dinosaurs. If your child has any books, pictures etc at home related to this topic we would love to share it with them.

Happy New Year and welcome back to the Spring term. We are looking forward to getting to know our new starters and welcome back all of the Nursery children.

 

This week we will be observing the children to find out their interests during child initiated play. We will also be playing lots of team games and reminding the children about the rules we made together last half term. We used Mr Potato Head to help us, and talked about using kind hands, listening ears, walking feet, looking eyes and sitting on our bottoms at carpet time.

 

We are particularly excited about using our new balance bikes, provided by FOMAS.

Christmas is nearly here, we have had a wonderful half term with lots of exciting activities. This week we will be preparing for the Nativity. All children should attend afternoon Nursery on Wednesday 16th December which begins at 12.30pm. The children have worked very hard and are really looking forward to showing you all.

 

We will of course be having lots of fun in the classroom too, creating lots of Christmas crafts.

This week we are off to the farm on Monday. Please join us there at 9.50am. Children and adults will need a packed lunch.

 

On Wednesday it is Christmas jumper day, this is a non-uniform day. (See newsletter for details)

 

We will also be completing lots of Christmas activities, as well as practising for our Nativity play.

We are following the children’s interests in snow and will be linking this to our learning. We will be continuing to learn the Christmas songs for both our Christmas Craft morning and the Nativity play.

 

Our RE topic is changing to ‘Christmas’.

 

We will be beginning the topic by looking at the Christmas story, and moving on to thinking about family traditions. We would love to hear about your traditions at talk time. You can send pictures, photos etc to help your child remember significant events.

This week in school it is Friendship week. We will be talking about how we can be a good friend. We will be playing team games using the parachute and making a friendship wreath.

 

The children have led their own play this week and changed our role play into a Post Office. We will be reading ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’, talking about characters and adding our own props to make our learning more fun. The story introduces lots of different Fairy Tale characters, why not ask your child to tell you about some of them.

 

Over the next few weeks we will also be learning lots of Christmas songs for both our Christmas Craft morning and the Nativity play.

 

 

 

Our RE topic is changing to ‘Christmas’.

Welcome to International week! This week throughout school the children will be exploring different countries. In Nursery we will be checking in at the airport and flying off on a snowy adventure. We will be looking at animals which like cold climates, talking about sports we can play in the snow and lots more. We will also be developing our fine motor skills through a range of activities, including snowflakes and snowball making.

 

We also have our New Starter visit this week where we will be meeting some new friends.

 

 

 

Our RE topic this half term is People Who Help Us.

This week in Nursery we will be thinking and talking about ‘Diwali’, Festival of Light. We will be encouraging the children to investigate colour and light through a variety of activities. Look out for our photos on our webpage soon to see what we have been learning. If you have any items at home you would like to share with us, related to colour and light, please bring them on Tuesday to share during talk time.

 

On Wednesday we will also be talking about Remembrance Day. The children will be making their own poppies which will be displayed in school for a short time before they bring them home. Please look out for them in the Nursery corridor. We are always very proud of the children’s independent work and enjoy sharing it with you.

 

Our Winter Wonderland has been a great success; the children are thoroughly enjoying it. This week we will be developing our Investigation Area with the children, again linking with our theme of colour and light.

Welcome back we hope you all had a restful week. The weather has definitely changed, becoming colder and wetter; however we will still be working outside on a daily basis. Please could you ensure that your child comes to Nursery in suitable, named, clothing. We would really appreciate it if they could bring their own wellies and any waterproof clothing they may have for outdoors. A spare change of clothes, particularly socks, will also be useful as we often use water, mud, paint, gloop and much more in our play.

 

This week in Nursery we will be observing the children during child initiated play. We will then use this to inform our planning.

Based on the children’s interests at the end of last half term we are developing our role play with the children. They will be working together to create a winter wonderland.

 

Our RE topic this half term is People Who Help Us. As part of this topic we will be talking about Firefighters, and the importance of staying safe on Bonfire Night. We will also be creating our own representations of Bonfire Night.

Following the children’s interests in ‘magic’ last week we will be creating a potion station in nursery. Children will be encouraged to make their own potions, writing ingredients and making their own magic.

 

We will be continuing to encourage mark making skills and will be attempting this using gloop during our messy play session.

 

This week in Nursery we will be getting very messy!

Tuesday 13th – Wednesday 14th September 2015

We have had a very exciting few days in Nursery. We had a very special visitor who came to play.  We made friends with ‘Nut’ the squirrel and helped him to find a new home ready for Winter. The children were very excited to collect Autumn leaves, acorns, conkers etc during our Autumn walk. We have used these in the classroom for printing, sorting and counting.

 

Outside the children have been making marks with a range of materials, which we will continue next week. Look out for some photos in the classroom.
