Week Commencing 13th June 2016
Children in Green class have enjoyed learning about the continents and oceans of the world this week. They have tried to remember these when we discussed the world again as part of our art lesson.
Also in the art lesson children heard the poem "A Box of Crayons" , about how we are all different which also linked to an assembly this week on the rainbow. Children thought about how the world would be a very boring place if there was only one colour in the world. They said that our differences make the world a more colourful and interesting place. They enjoyed then drawing a self portrait and for some of them, the rest of the class had to guess who it was!
Science was about the seasons and how this effects different animals. They learnt about what the Robin does depending on the season. Some were fascinated by the name for the eggs before they've hatched (a clutch), due to us recently having learnt about cars! More about this topic will be learnt next week.
Next week it is Sports Week. Please make sure that your child has his/her PE Kit in school. We hope to see you at the Sainsburys School Games afternoon on Thursday 23rd June!
Maths Homework has been allocated on the Active Learn Primary website. Children have the website address, their username and password on a sticker in their reading records.
Please could all Year 2 parents provide their children with a swimming hat and a pair of goggles each week for the swimming sessions (Wednesdays). Thank you.
Week ending 26.2.16
Green class have been enjoying learning about Plants this week in Science. Children labelled the plants understanding what each part of the plant does (stem, flower, roots and leaves).
In R.E. we have started thinking about Peace and what this means.
The main questions asked this week were "What is Peace?" and "Where is Peace?" .
Some children thought that "Peace is when their brothers are not around!"
Some said that "Peace is being in their room on their own" and some thought that "Peace is stroking/playing with their dog".
In P.E. Mr Dimmock is back with us and the children are learning racket skills this half term. They started off with practising how to throw and catch the tennis ball. They all enjoyed this and photos will follow soon!
1st January 2016
Happy New Year!
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and Santa was good to all of you!!
Thank you again for all the fabulous cards and lovely gifts you all so kindly gave me.
It is not long before we are back to school. I hope everyone is well rested and ready to learn.
Please see the overview at the bottom to see what the children will be learning about this half term. Thanks.
Week ending 11th December
This week we have spent some time practising the Christmas performance ready for Wednesday 16th December. We hope that you are looking forward to it!
Within my english class, the children have written about the christmas story and as a whole class in art, we have attempted to draw the stable scene. Also in english the children have watched an animation about a bird, which had no words in at all. Following this, children had to write the story from what they had just seen. There are some lovely stories which have been written. I sent two of the children to Miss Halliday for Headteacher stickers, as their stories were so good! The english class have also learnt about alliteration and similes this week.
In maths the children have been learning about money and the different coins available, plus using these for addition and subtraction, pretending to be in a shop buying classroom items!
The children are looking forward to next week as it gets closer to Christmas and we start the week on Monday 14th with our Christmas party!!
Week ending 27.11.15
This week has been Friendship week! Children have enjoyed some whole school activities, sometimes with children in other year groups.
They have made a very long "friendship chain" having written words about friendship on each link. This was great fun and went all the way around the hall once it was finished!
Children have also made some anti-bullying posters. One lesson was about prejudice and stereotypes. Some said after this lesson that they learnt:
"You cannot tell what a person is like from simply looking at them. The person has to show you what they are like."
Finally they learnt an anti-bullying rap which they had great fun singing!!
In history, we started the topic of Great Fire of London which the children were fascinated by. They will learn more about it next week.
English was all about information texts and children learnt some Polar bear facts in the process.
Maths in Green class was multiplication and division. The children worked hard and I was very pleased with their achievements, particularly with the division .
Week ending 20th November 2015
This week has been International week and that has meant a very exciting week! The children have had a great time boarding the 'plane' with their passports in hand and jetting off to different countries everyday. This has given them the opportunity to learn something about those countries, enjoy being with a mixture of children from Reception through to Year 4 and also to do lots of different activities within the classrooms. Plus, not to forget the food tasting on Friday afternoon! Thank you for providing such delicious food. Some children tried new foods and loved them!
When children visited Green class they were able to learn a bit about Mexico! A little bit about some of the food and traditional Mexican items such as the serape and sombrero. They also were able to look at the fascinating pyramids and beautirful beaches. The activity was based on the Azteks, as they created Aztek masks using a mosaic style. We also watched some traditional dancing and some of the children joined in! Lots of fun throughout all the classrooms (and countries) was had by all.
Please take a look at the photos in the Gallery. The link is below.
Week ending 25/9/15
Green class have had a great few weeks! The children are working well together.
In Science so far we have done some measuring of our feet and height to investigate whether or not taller children have bigger feet. The conclusion to this experiment will be completed next week.
We have also had Darcy (the tortoise) visit as other classes have too. Children learnt about the life cycle of the tortoise and sensibly sat watching him crawl across the carpet. Some stroked him and found out that his shell was really hard!
In topic we have learnt about the work of Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale and the conditions in which they worked. This week the children found out about Jennifer Worth who wrote the book 'Call the Midwife', which is now a popular TV series.
P.E. has been brilliant fun! The children have learnt some hand eye co-ordination skills and how to move in different directions quickly. They are really enjoying dance with Mrs Pallet too, especially the moves to 'Moves like Jagger'.
In ICT we have listened to Smartie the Penguin and understood how to keep safe on the internet. We have also attempted to write an algorithm to share sweets between 2 people. Some of us found this quite tricky to articulate, although we all knew it was best to give each person one each until we had the same amount. Well done Green class, proving that you all know how to be kind and share fairly too!
In art the children have produced some lovely self portraits. This week we learnt about Pablo Picasso's style of painting and attempted our own. We have made them multi coloured with eyes and noses in unusual places! Next week we will attempt to make our draft drawings into larger, painted versions and the best ones will go on the board in the hall so please look out for those!
R.E. has brought learning about Harvest and children have done some lovely Harvest posters which are displayed in the classroom. We have also learnt about a few of the miracles that Jesus performed and children re-told one of these stories in pictures and words.
